of stars and gripes Part II quite outdated and overdue but ehh.. im completing what i started writing about a week ago.. Memoirs of a Geisha. 3/5 stars The movie pales in comparison to the book. period! cannot compare at all. while the book is highly emotionally charged throughout, what the movie delivers is a slow paced walk through the events that take place. Few things that got me iffy... why are zhang ziyi's eyes blue!!! they are supposed to be grey!!! dont tell me that they are bluegrey. they arent. and anyway so what if they're bluegrey?the book din say anything about them being bluegrey, they're supposed to be grey! just because blue looks nicer than grey, it doesnt mean that u can just anyhow change important details to enhance aesthetic appeal. if i remembered details from the book wrongly, and someone can prove me wrong, please tell me the page no. and quote the line and i will say im sorry for scolding the movie makers wrongly. why does pumpkin speak with an american accent after just a few years of hanging out with a bunch of american soldiers??????????? thats just not possible because, in the first place, all of them shouldn be speaking in english. its in english cos the books in english but everyone knows that they really should be speaking in japanese. if they really could speak english, the way zzy speaks is exactly how they should speak. i dont think the book mentions of pumpkin picking up an american accent anyway. how come they dun call nobu the lizard man..cos he's supposed to be called the lizard man and is really ugly but he's not that ugly in the show. in fact everyone is a lot prettier in the show! mother is supposed to be waywayway cruel, totally unlikable and reaaaallly hideous. but i feel she's been toned down a lot in the movie. basically, i feel that the characters were very underdeveloped in the show. the person portrayed the worst would be hatsumomo. hatsumomo for all her evilness, was supposed to be the most beautiful and powerful geisha at that time....at least until later on when mother adopted sayuri and then she became lousier..but i dont feel that the movie brought out the prowress of hatsumomo at all. for a good conflict to arise, and an impactful resolution to take place, you need well structured protagonists and antagonists. hatsumomo is the ultimate antagonist but the movie failed to maximise this character. the image of her previous flawlessly beautiful geisha self when contrasted with her ramshackled nothingness self after being kicked out of the okiya is most powerful. however, as a lot of the times when gong li appeared on screen she wasnt in her geisha gear and instead looked like a cheap unkempt tart (hair untied all over the place and dressed sloppily), the image of hatsumomo portrayed isnt as as powerful as it should be and u feel like shes just this flouncy thing being mean to zzy as opposed to her being this evil queen making zzys life a living hell. ok ive said enough of bad stuff. Good stuff now. Match Point 4/5 stars!!!!! directed by woody allen, stars Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers (remember him from bend it like beckham) a seemingly typical movie about another married man with another secret mistress who (surprise!surprise!) gets pregnant turns out to have quite a shocker ending. quirky! fun! watch it! watch it! Thing of the day!!!~ Fireworks at esplanade!!! wow.

of stars and gripes today was a foodie day! for lunch we went to try the so called australia's best fish n chips at clementi central..didnt know where it was but a quick 2minute walk found us right at the coffee shop where the stall is! it could have been that we have a reallly good nose for food..or the stall has a very good location..hmm.. anyways the fish n chips costs 6bux leh.. rather expensive for hawker fare i must say. but hey, its australia's best fish n chips. the fish n chips itself is not bad lah..the fries are really nice..a bit like long john's chips.. the fish is substential and has a nice flakyness..the batter is alright- crispy and light. but somehow,it just cant be considered the best fish and chips around..sometimes i couldn really taste the fish and just got a mouthfull of batter and after a while, i got a bit jalat of the fishy.. this cant be australia's best fish and chips lah.. bluff people one dinner was ice cream fondue at hv haagen dazs! woooooo.. choc/ice cream lovers..you have to try this baby! for 30bux, the fondue comes with more than too much peripherals for 2 people to finish (2 people being one guy one girl cos accordin to biao, fondue is a dating food thing and if 3 people share fondue thats like so weird hahaha) even with the girl havin skipped dinner and the guy..uhh guy can eat a lot one lah. hahaha the whole deal about the haagen daz fondue is the ICE CREAM. the pictures on the menue lie. you dont get multi coloured mini ice cream balls but a bunch of flavours which are in browns and creams. but thats ok lah..cos all of those flavours are very nice.. but then again once u dip your ice cream in the choc and u put the whole thing in your mouth, you cant really taste the ice cream flavour anymore.i for one didnt really pay attention to the flavours of the ice cream. i was more occupied in making the perfect fondue icecream ball. what happens is, when u dip the ice cream in the pot of chocolate and u take the ball out, the ice cream kinda hardens on the surface. but it doesn become hard like when u put choc syrup on ur ice cream. it just kinda encases the ice cream and when u put it into your mouth, the chocolate is still liquid and you can taste the heavenly richness of the chocolate and past the chocolate you get the cold creamyness of the ice cream. phwwaaa. shiok man. but unfortunately, you cant take your time to savour the ice cream slowly and alternate much between the other stuff ( banana, strawberry, green apple (yuck), cheesecake, chocolate biscuit roll and this biscuit wafer thing) cos the tiny balls of ice cream melt so damn fast you gotta gobble them up before everything else. at the end of it i got quite jelat of all the chocolate, but i think in enough time i'll wana have another dose of the haagen daz fondue. i personally prefer this fondue to max brenners fondue. the ice cream makes it an obvious plus plus, but also i think the chocolate is nicer- sweeter and not so thick which makes it more edible. people say im not a real chocolate lover cos i dont like dark chocolate. but i like my chocolate sweet wad. cannot meh. =P =D i wana complain about memoirs of a geisha but ehh v tired n lazy..hahaha Thing of the day!!!~ Word : furtive adj. 1. Characterized by stealth; surreptitious. 2. Expressive of hidden motives or purposes; shifty not exactly what i thought it to be..but close enough lah..hahaha
