Lots and Lots of things Have Happened

in between my last few days oh holiday in Singapore and today..lots and lots of things have happened..and its because of that that i havnt had time to talk about all the things that ive done! so without further ado..here's a really quick recap on whats been going on.. on my second last day in singapore.. i had my 3rd 21st at St Pierre. YaY! uber chic French restaurant. i love St Pierre.. i wish i could go to places like that more often.. i have a plate to prove that i didnt make this up!hahaha i love the words!!so pretty!
the very nice people that celebrated my birthday with me..my family! oh and..my sister's bf got me The Deathly Hallows as my present..on my sisters suggestion of course..it was a very very good choice. hahahaha

which brings me to Harry Potter! yes!!! Harry Potter is such a big deal that it goes on this list of things that happened within the last month. so me getting it as a present was great cos it totally solved my problem of how i was gona get my hands on a book..cos my sister was obviously gona buy one..but it came out 1 day before i came back to melbourne so even though she reads super fast, there was no way she was gona be able to finish it cos she didnt have time to sit down to read it.. and i didnt wana buy one cos im cheapo and i dont want to buy a duplicate of a book that we would have at home! and i definitely was not gona read any of those online books.. most certainly not the one which was photos of the pages of the book where u can even see the fingers holding the book open!!! argh! harry potter deserves more respect than that! anyway.. so i spent all my free waking hours in the first 3 days back in melbourne reading potter (im a really slow reader..i read every word slowly) and i finally finished it at 5am on thurs morning. *spoilers ahead* after waiting so long to find out what happens in the end..i guess the end was satisfying..harry didnt die so thats really good cos that was really a potential ending and i dont know how i'd cope emotionally if he really died..(haha yes im that kinda person who gets emotionally affected by things that happen to fictional characters)i mean i just dont see how the ending could be satisfying if he died..well yea there was that part when it was leading towards his death and it happened in such a way that you accept it and it doesnt make u feel like indignant about it..but i mean i think if at e end of it harry really died i would have felt really like.. man i cant believe he really died!!and i'll say that over and over again to myself a million times..there's no more books to bring him back to life u know..like how i was hoping that dumbledore and sirius would somehow come back to life in book 7. but that didnt happen of course.sigh. hahahaha.. so yea..harry potter happened..and it was good..even the epilogue.. i know its kinda corny and i dont like the name albus severus(lol) but its really good closure lah.*spoilers end*

then ski/snowboarding trip that weekend!!! we went to mt hotham. mt hotham is my favourite mountain!!!it beats the sh*t out of buller!!!! its been a really good snow season plus hotham is naturally better than buller..so it was really really awesome..it has soo many runs it would be soo good if i could board well then can go to the many many blues and blacks!!but thats a far way to go so haha..i think if i had skied i could have gone on most of the blue runs cos i found skiing rather easy last year and at the end of it i was skiing really comfortably..but i decided to try boarding this time so yea..green runs it was..and the green runs are much better and longer too than at buller...but oh man that freaking chair lift up the summit..arghhhhh i hate it!! its wayyy tooo cold up there!!
i'll write and put more boarding pics up when ive got more time another time..

after the boarding trip i spent the next week recouperating..and on saturday i went to Hard Rock Cafe with ex-/current ormondians in lue of Sue's last day in melbourne..hard rock was playing hard rock and it was so loud u had to shout to speak to the person next to you. but the live band wasnt too bad..and i quite enjoyed them when when they played songs that i know..they played a rock version of Girlfriend and Umbrella. HAHAHAHAHAHAAAA...hearing the rock dude sing girlfriend was realy amusing..and the rock umbrella was really like that video put up on tomorrow of tt local band that did a rock version of it too..
and because i dont have the photos yet, im gona steal a photo from jian wey

then the same night, shermin, yvonne and wan jun touched down in melbourne for a holiday!..they stayed at my place so i played host until weds morning..we had 4 girls sleeping on 3 beds in one room for 4 nights.. haha..so my weekend was really happening and the first day, Sunday, was a really melbourne day.. here's what we did..started out at about 9.30 in the morning and took a nice 5 minute walk to queen victoria market. did all the essentials at queen vic..bought goodies at the retail section, ate jam doughnuts, got nougats from the candy shop and had boraks(?) from a turkish?greek? food stall..its this doughy thing with either mince lamb or potatoes.. i got the potato one..i really like those borak things! then we went to st kilda's arts market for a look around..got some pretty buys..after which we headed back to the city and went to federation square. while we were there, the girls went to the tourist center to book a day tour to the great ocean road. and we ended off the day with some shopping in the city..brought them to The Block Arcade, Royal Arcade, then shopping at jeanswest, sportsgirl and The Myers Basement. by the end of it i was so so so so tired. but i had to come home for an ltc meeting.. doing bible study while dead tired is really no joke. the girls went to lygon for dinner without met..and had Papa Gino's and because Il Dolche is closed, they had the next best place for desert at lygon..which obviously is Koko Black. really a pity that they didnt get to try the roche gelati.
and because i dont have the cool photos of us standing at the luna park entrance..pics of us on the tram will suffice

then this monday, we had bena's and jo's late 21st in Melbourne. at this nice jazz restaurant/pub called Manchester Lane ..down at why manchester lane of course! hahahahaha.. ok..other than the fact that the meal turned out to be more pricy than i expected cos i didnt think we would have to pay cover charge cos we were dining.. the place was really nice, great ambiance, and e big band was really good..and i liked my food..i got a veal ossa bucca (or something like that) basically stewed veal..but a lota people had high expecations for this squid ink pasta that turned out to be a let down..so boo..and..also i lost my mini chupa chup pen while ticking off the receipt to settle the bill so double boo =( but it was still fun overall lah.haha
my veal with mashed potatoes.. the potatoes were YUM and the veal meat just falls off the bone..that tender!!
the big band..
and the party!

today's national day and of course we did something to celebrate it..we had a bbq at my place..haha i made potato salad! we watched the webcast of the parade. the streaming was pretty good..not much lag but the size of e video itself was really small..so tts the only complaint.. interesting cos it was at a new venue and all.. on a side note, its been the second time we've used our bbq pit. haha..and from the first time ive learn a couple of things..and that actually made my life a whole lot easier!! the last time we used e pit the hotplate was impossible to clean out.. it was an absolute nightmare!! so this time i covered the hotplate with foil first, and when the first layer got all burnt and black, we simply covered it with yet another layer of foil! Brilliant! but even after wrapping it up nicely the oil still managed to seep down onto the hotplate..but that was cleaned up in a jiffy. its good to learn your lessons.

More perils of living "on your own"

so my question for the day was, when a potato has gone green, does it mean its gone bad?

actually..ive eaten sorta green potatoes before..but after u skin it deeper..its still white on the inside, and i didnt get diarrhoea or any of the like after that.. but the potato that im talking about now is really green. more green that i have ever seen it before. and so the natural thing to do, was to ask google "when have potatoes gone bad?"

i found this..

Is it good or bad?

THE GAG TEST: Anything that makes you gag is spoiled (except for leftovers from what you cooked for yourself last night).

EGGS: When something starts pecking its way out of the shell, the egg is probably past its prime.

DAIRY PRODUCTS: Milk is spoiled when it starts to look like yogurt. Yogurt is spoiled when it starts to look like cottage cheese. Cottage cheese is spoiled when it starts to look like regular cheese. Regular cheese is nothing but spoiled milk anyway and can't get any more spoiled than it is already. Cheddar cheese is spoiled when you think it is blue cheese but you realize you've never purchased that kind.

MAYONNAISE: If it makes you violently ill after you eat it, the mayonnaise is spoiled.

FROZEN FOODS: Frozen foods that have become an integral part of the defrosting problem in your freezer compartment will probably be spoiled (or wrecked anyway) by the time you pry them out with a kitchen knife.

EXPIRATION DATES: This is NOT a marketing ploy to encourage you to throw away perfectly good food so that you'll spend more on groceries. Perhaps you'd benefit by having a calendar in your kitchen.

MEAT: If opening the refrigerator door causes stray animals from a three-block radius to congregate outside your house, the meat is spoiled.

BREAD: Sesame seeds and Poppy seeds are the only officially acceptable "spots" that should be seen on the surface of any loaf of bread. Fuzzy and hairy looking white or green growth areas are a good indication that your bread has turned into a pharmaceutical laboratory experiment.

FLOUR: Flour is spoiled when it wiggles.

SALT: It never spoils.

CEREAL: It is generally a good rule of thumb that cereal should be discarded when it is two years or longer beyond the expiration date.

LETTUCE: Bibb lettuce is spoiled when you can't get it off the bottom of the vegetable crisper without Comet. Romaine lettuce is spoiled when it turns liquid.

CANNED GOODS: Any canned goods that have become the size or shape of a softball should be disposed of. Carefully.

CARROTS: A carrot that you can tie a clove hitch in is not fresh.

POTATOES: Fresh potatoes do not have roots, branches, or dense, leafy undergrowth.

CHIP DIP: If you can take it out of its container and bounce it on the floor, it has gone bad.

EMPTY CONTAINERS: Putting empty containers back into the refrigerator is an old trick, but it only works if you live with someone or have a maid.

UNMARKED ITEMS: You know it is well beyond prime when you're tempted to discard the Tupperware along with the food. Generally speaking, Tupperware containers should not burp when you open them.

GENERAL RULE OF THUMB: Most food cannot be kept longer than the average life span of a hamster. Keep a hamster in or nearby your refrigerator to gauge this.
-.-

i still didnt know if my green potato was safe to eat or not.

i got a really interesting email today.. the sender was "me" and the title was "An email from the past". i was a bit hesitant to open it cos you know i don't want to open a virus. but of course my curiosity got the most out of me and this is what the email said, "don't forget the past, and always look forward to the future. =)" this was really befuddling me..was i being spammed??? so i did a google on an email from the past..and i found someone elses post that also talked abt receiving an email like that..and there was a link ahhh.....ahahah now i think i remember doing something like that before.. yesyes..and it would make perfect sense for me to send it out on this date as well!...i thought there might be some like stock quotes that you could use in composing this email to yourself..but the more i think about it..the more i think i actually came up with that myself..and i must say..i am surprised at how deep i am.. ahahahahaa ok..i mean like..that i came up with something in the past that speaks straight into my heart today.. thats really really cool. and thats why the email really befuddled me when i first opened it and didnt know what it was because its like..what is this??!why is it like psychic and can say something that speaks straight to me?! you know..so yea..i think im gonna send it to myself again on 1 aug 2010.. today's a really special day..ive been looking forward to it for the past few days..waiting in anticipation for those few hours at night when we could try to do something that is.. really.. a poor substitute for what it should have been.. and then circumstances took those few hours away...and at that moment i was crushed.. this time that i had been looking forward to had just been stolen away from me..and i could do absolutely nothing about it..when its been three years its really not just another day.. well.. here's to us.. im looking forward to 2010
